Strategic thinking focuses on finding and developing unique opportunities to create value by enabling a provocative and creative dialogue among people who can affect a company’s direction. It is the input to strategic planning—good strategic thinking uncovers potential opportunities for creating value and challenges assumptions about a company’s value proposition, so that when the plan is created, it targets these opportunities. Strategic thinking is a way of understanding the fundamental drivers of a business and rigorously (and playfully) challenging conventional thinking about them, in conversation with others. http://www.cfar.com/Documents/strathink.pdf

Leigh's contribution to strategic thinking:

Leigh brings a strong understanding and capability in conceptualising context, and an ability to envision and develop options to explore. He has strengths in challenging assumptions, often long held, leading to new possibilities and opportunities. These strengths are based on establishing good process, and developing excellent relationships with all stakeholders. This has been evidenced in the strength of the former Manukau City Council and community ‘Balance Sheet’, and a range of projects with world class outcomes.

Leigh has, and continues to provide strategic positioning advice to clients with regard to the governance changes in Auckland. He has provided advice to groups of councils on strategic collaboration and shared services in a region. Leigh has also assisted clients with their strategic planning.
